TREASURY CHAMBERS,

9 August 1887.

C. O. 15953

RECO

REGE 10 AUG 87,

151

I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury the Colonial Ordinance affecting the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, which was enclosed in your letter of the 27th ultimo; and I am directed to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that their Lordships see no objection to the Ordinance, which is confined to renewing for a further period of 21 years the powers and privileges conferred in the Ordinances of 1866 and 1882.

I am, however, to point out that the Ordinance only reached this Board on the 28th ultimo, and that the powers which it renews expire on the 14th instant. Therefore, there are no objectionable provisions in the new Ordinance, or provisions requiring consideration by the Secretary of State.
